Design Engineer


The Design Engineer is responsible for designing special track solutions for CTM’s various customers according to the customer’s specifications and CTM’s standards.  Working with senior CTM Engineers, the Design Engineer develops products and design solutions, creates the necessary documentation, and initiates the internal processes for manufacture.  Design Engineers work independently on individual projects or as part of a team responsible for larger project based designs.  Interface with the customer is essential to ensure all expectations and specifications have been validated in the design.  Support of Manufacturing, Lean initiatives, and the Continuous Improvement culture are important elements of the role.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  (additional responsibilities may be added as needed)

  1. Creates design solutions for CTM customers ensuring products meet and exceed all customer and industry requirements
  2. Designs and details various CTM products within AutoCAD 2D environment
  3. Develops 3D solid models of CTM products within AutoDesk Inventor
  4. Completes project based work in support of engineering objectives under direction of Engineering staff and in accordance to Engineering standard work and processes
  5. Supports senior Engineering projects through deliverables and quality work assignments
  6. Supports CTM Manufacturing through various projects not limited to design
  7. Supports design, CAD, and Engineering systems verifying work exceeds CTM Engineering standards and customer expectations
  8. Develops and revises CTM Engineering procedures documenting best practice in department
  9. Participates in Lean Manufacturing and supports the Continuous Improvement culture


  1. AutoCAD 2D and AutoDesk Inventor required; (alternate 3D modeling systems may be considered – i.e.: SolidWorks, Pro-E, UG)
  2. Minimum of 5 years of Engineering related experience in relevant Manufacturing discipline and demonstration of working Manufacturing knowledge
  3. Bachelor of Science / Arts in an Engineering or Technical field of study, Associates Degree in Engineering or Technical field of study, Two-year accredited Design and Drafting Program
  4. Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate across all levels of the organization from senior management to manufacturing
  5. Ability to communicate professionally, clearly, and effectively with customers
  6. Teamwork and collaborations skills are required, and candidates must be able to demonstrate success in an Engineering design environment
  7. Capability to exercise Engineering judgment and understand its effects on Quality, Costs, Productivity, and Purchasing
  8. Self-discipline, detail oriented, and motivated to ensure all assignments are completed with the highest level of quality and on-time
  9. Excellent mathematical skills including fundamental understanding of geometry, trigonometry, and solid geometry
  10. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  11. Problem Solving Skills based on information, data, and observation
